Why You Should Care Less About Things

To be honest your time is valuable. Why stress over things that don't matter? I don't really know what changed inside of me but I just don't care that much about anything anymore. Nihilism maybe? The opposite of Nihilism? My understanding of the intrinsic link between myself, the universe and all living things? The fact that this universe is endless and we are all just a speck in the void? Could be anything really, who knows.

What I do know is that you are gonna be ten thousand times happier if you just cared less about things that don't matter. Heres the thing, I'm a line cook and those dudes are crazy. Line cooks are notoriously hot headed and really anything can just send those dudes into a spiral. I see it every single day.

And ya know what it gets me thinkin everytime they lose it. What could ever make me mad? The answer? Still haven't figured it out. One time my brother stepped on the back of my shoe on purpose and my shoe came off and sometimes I still think about it. It's probably some form of childhood trauma I haven't dealt with. But my point is, just stop caring about things. Just knock it off.

You are the only person/thing/circumstance that can make you feel any type of way about anything. You choose how you react to this world. Why make it harder for yourself than it has to be? Get a grip on yourself and focus on the things you have now.

You got two workin legs (most of you, probably), food to eat, a nice cozy bed to lay your head. The sun that shines through the window. Lights that reflect in the snow making it bright out when it's dark. Your friends, family, people you love. When you keep in my mind everything you have to be grateful for, it makes things that aren't important appear exactly as they are. Unimportant.

Fun fact, your brain has this really nice trick for filtering out things that it deems unimportant so you can literally train your brain to just filter out dumb things that might've annoyed you in the past.

Pause. Get out your notebook and write down, right now, 3 things that you're grateful for. If you think it's difficult it's not, shut the fuck up and write 3 things.

Do this everyday. Speak it into existence. Let the universe know that you are grateful for her. Do it one morning and watch how different your day is. Do it for a week and notice how much calmer you are. Do it for a month and watch yourself mold into a calmer, happier person.

There's this really famous quote in that movie Rocky  that goes "The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place..." and the quote goes on to say how it's not about hard you can hit, its about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. And I get the message, but I have an issue with it. The world really isn't this mean and nasty place. This world is beautiful and kind and she's really not out to get you at all I can assure you, it's all a matter of perspective.

There's this other quote that I really like thats by the writer Jack Kerouac and it goes, "And I realized that no matter where I am, whether in a little room full of thought, or in this endless universe of stars and mountains, it's all in my mind.” And ya know what? It really is all in your head. Try to make it a nice place to be.
